This might just make studying fun again!

This is a nice book! As a nursing student, I am always on the lookout for something to make studying more fun and I think this might be just the thing! I like that it is spiral bound. This will make it very easy to use. It had really cool transparent pages with overlays of the different systems of the body which is a neat feature I didn't expect. I fully recommend this book!

No other book compares

I've looked at alot of Anatomy Coloring books and this one is far superior. It is absolutely the best. First it is spiral bound. Second the drawings are very clear and large using several plates for each area with zoom in drawings. Third it provides a "study" mode encouraging the student to label each drawing while coloring with the correct answers on the bottom of the page. I cannot say enough good things about the quality of this book and the value of the large uncluttered drawings. I wish it was around 30 years ago when I was in nursing school, but was thrilled to find it for my pre-pharmacy daughter.

One expects a rock n’ roll memoir to be full of sound and fury, signifying nothing if not the inflamed passions, tortured egos, precipitous climb and calamitous descent of its subjects. Emerson, composer and keyboardist for the Nice and, later, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, gives readers all this: from flag-burnings to overeager groupies, from musical mishaps to drunken, drug-addled excesses, as well as a host of backstage celebrity interactions. (Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, Rod Stewart and a wonderfully catty portrait of Leonard Bernstein as a supercilious old perv are just a few that dot the book’s landscape.) Wildly theatrical onstage, Emerson played Norman Bates to his organs and keyboards, hacking away at them with knives and swords, often leaving them ruined and smoldering in his wake. The problem is that, as narrator to his own life, Emerson seems too, well, nice to rev the engine needed to drive such a book properly. He pulls back when he should barrel full-speed, and his writing lacks the killer incisiveness of his keyboard play. Slow to start, often clumsily overwritten and self-serving, Emerson’s memoir shows little sense of the narrative arc of the author’s life, and so the book trudges on in a litany of events, happenings and episodes that ultimately don’t add up to more than a series of pictures at an exhibition. Emerson seems too self-absorbed to be an acute observer of others, neither does he appear reflective enough to cast light on the shadows of his own life. Fans of Emerson’s bands will relish the scenester details anyway, but others may find themselves wishing he could write with the same brilliant abandon that he applied to his music.

Title Says It All

Like the other reviewers here, I was and am a big ELP fan. As soon I heard Keith Emerson's playing, I was dumb-struck by his virtuosity and musical vision, one that, alas, did not play out too well over the years. I eagerly awaited this book, mainly because I wanted to hear what Keith Emerson had to say about his music.
There's a scene in "Spinal Tap" when David St. Hubbins is playing a beautiful piano piece and Rob Reiner asks him what the music is called . St. Hubbins replies "Lift my Love Pump." Well, I think that might sum up this book, and I can't say I wasn't warned by the title.
There are virtues here, however. Emerson has a breezy, conversational writing style that goes down easy, and he doesn't write a self-serving book in the least. The first part of the book, from his childhood to his breaking up the Nice is the best part, funny, and heartwarming. It struck me how much Emerson loved Lee Jackson and Brian Davidson, and the affection for his once and future bandmates mixed well with the stories. I often found myself laughing out loud.
The ELP and after sections are troubled. It's clear Emerson never liked Lake, and had a brotherly and patronizing attitude towards Palmer. But love between bandmates doesn't necessarily make great music, however, after reading this book and listening to the ELP oveure, I finally sensed the coldness that so many critics complained about.
The descent into drugs, the sadness of an abortion caused by miscommunication, the wrecking of Emerson's hand and the subsequent operations all make the second half of the book more than a bit sad. Emerson might have toned his words for this part of the book, but it continues in a breakneck and breezy manner, giving the impression (false I'm sure) that Emerson didn't care about these things.
My biggest complaint, however, is that he hardly discusses the music at all. I would have put up with hijinx and lines of coke with Bonzo better if he had talked about composing Tarkus more.
Still, for a proghead and synthfool like me, Pics of Ex is worth reading, even if the God of the Moog diminishes himself.

Two Thumb's Up!

Ok, so Keith Emerson is not the most highly polished writer in the cosmic universe. And sure, there are parts of his story which are sewn together rather disjointedly. Looking at it overall it seemed to me there were days where he wrote brilliantly and days where the results were average. I'm certainly no authority but I'm of the opinion if he could have gone back and revised the writing from those average days to the polished brilliance found elsewhere the results may have been a best seller. What you get is an honest and open account of one of the music world's great artist and performer's life. I've read other reviews that did not approve of all the road story details this book contains. Not me. When I read a biography about any person from any walk of life I want it all, real, and the way it truly was. Mr. Emerson guides you through it all with a revealing look behind the scenes of his professional and personal life, and yes, there are some interesting, startling, and amusing insights. If you're looking for behind the scenes Emerson, Lake, and Palmer info and dirt there's enough here to satisfy. He raises well found criticisms about Greg Lake's sometimes caustic behavior but then on the other hand he intimates how much of a truly good person Carl Palmer is. He also relates stories that could only originate from one of rock's elite members such as being on tour with Jimi Hendrix, and the Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett, his not so friendly rivalry with the band Yes, or motorcycling with Ringo Starr as a passenger. I am pleased to have read this and recommend you do the same.

Thoroughly enjoyable and pertinent account of Emerson's rise and heyday

Fans of ELP and Keith Emerson will definitely want to read this. A thoroughly engaging, often hilarious account of Emerson's success story from his humble beginnings, through his struggling years with early bands, on past his first major success with the Nice, beyond his wild days of stardom with ELP, and back to his ironically humble present-day existence as a struggling artist in L.A. I enjoyed hearing about Emerson's personal encounters with Jimi Hendrix, the members of Led Zeppelin, Ian Anderson, and other rock luminaries. Also described by Emerson, and previously unknown to me, is the intense rivalry that existed between a newly established keyboard icon Emerson and up-and-coming British keyboardists Rick Wakeman and Patrick Moraz. I would have also liked to know Emerson's "take" on other notable keyboardists of his era, especially Tony Banks and Elton John, and I would further have been interested in Emerson's reaction to copycat band Triumvirate, who themselves put out amazing music, but whose cuts on the Pompeii album sounded a little too close to "Trilogy," "Third Impression," etc. Quite shocking, too, is the apparent dislike Emerson and Greg Lake had for each other throughout their time working together in ELP. Most interesting is the tidbits concerning some of the songs- how Emerson still cringes when he hears "Lucky Man" because he had played a better solo to the ending in the studio, but it mistakenly didn't get recorded, or how the Nice recorded an initial scratch track of "America" in the studio which was to be built upon, but instead an overzealous manager RELEASED the track to radio and pressed it to vinyl BEFORE the Nice could return for their follow-up studio session! From a literary standpoint, this book sorely lacks an editor; there are places where there is no continuity- Emerson's relationship with his wife and family is interwoven into the Nice and ELP years, but suddenly Emerson is living alone in L.A., with no prior mention of any type of separation from his family; similarly, Pete Sinfield, whose co-writing was integral to ELP throughout their career, isn't even mentioned until near the very end of the book; and there are also occasional grammatical errors, incomplete sentences, etc. However, my 5 star rating is solidly based on content, and this book certainly delivers! If you are an ELP fan like myself, this is a must-read.

About the Author
William Dalrymple's first book, 'In Xanadu', won the Yorkshire Post Best First Work Award and the Scottish Arts Council Spring Book Award. His third, 'From the Holy Mountain', won the Scottish Arts Council Autumn Book Award and was shortlisted for the 1998 Thomas Cook Award. His fourth, 'The Age of Kali', was published in November 1998. He is the youngest Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and has written and presented a six-part series on the buildings of the Raj for Channel 4.

A Good Primer on Delhi

A great overview of the history and cultural underpinnings that have created modern New Delhi. Dalrymple weaves his contemporary experiences of living in Delhi for a year to the history of the British Raj and Mogul empire. He visited many forgotten historical sites in old Delhi.

I've recently moved to New Delhi on a diplomatic assignment. This book provided useful background information even though it was published over 10 years ago.

Must Read If You Make Delhi

This isn't a guide book. Or a clever fiction that if fun to read because it takes place where you happen to be traveling. This is an deep dive into some hidden aspects of an ancient and fascinating city. Much of which is barely visible in this very modern city, but is still important - essential even - to understanding Delhi.

I was lucky enough to read this book while living in Delhi for a year myself. Certain aspects of the city the book covers, like the eunuchs, and part-British Indians are largely faded from the landscape.. many only there if you look hard enough like Dalrymple does. Even if you don't experience them directly, they give context to certain areas of the city... places you might pass over without a second glance take on a whole different perspective.

If nothing else stood out from the books, the writers take on the riots after Indira Gandhi's death are worth the read. The subtle undercurrents of tension in India can often be lost on the casual observer. But if you want to understand this complex city, it's worth learning the harshest parts. Often history glosses over the dark parts, but this book dives right in. After all, the Djinn's are the ghosts that make the city what it is. Don't get stuck on the modern veneer, take this book with you and explore the rich and complicated history of Delhi.

I heard the author speak, once, about Afghanistan and his knowledge of the Middle East amazed me. India represents an incredible culture dating back 3000 years. The author loves India and I learned much. I shall read this again!

Want to read again and again!

This lengthy series is now compacted into one solid novel. We laugh, we cry, we want to shake them both by the shoulders and tell them to pull themselves together! They're in love! Can't they see it? I loved this story so much that I want to read it over and over again. Definitely set aside a chunk of time to tear into this beast. Don't worry, though, the writing is easy to read and there's lots of snappy dialogue propelling it forward!

More like 90% Dom, 10% Domme

I borrowed this with my Amazon Prime membership, and I'm glad I didn't buy it because I felt like the blurb was misleading. There was very little equality in this relationship. There will be SOME SPOILERS in my review.

Ian and Kathryn are both dominants (and of course they're both rich and beautiful), both harboring an attraction from high school. They have vanilla-ish sex a couple of times, but are aware that a relationship probably wouldn't work between them. They make a stupid, drunken bet that Ian wins (which I knew he would, the other outcome MADE ZERO SENSE). And thus starts my many disappointments with this trilogy.

I liked Kathryn at first. Strong, smart heroines are the type I like to read about. Too bad she didn't stay that way. Ian was condescending 90% of the time, and even when admits he's been jerk, it doesn't feel like he really believes it.

Of course Ian wins the bet, because if Kathryn had won, this book might have actually been interesting. Instead, it's the same old sexist crap I've read before. Ian keeps going on about how much he likes who Kathryn is, yet in the next second it's all about how much he wants to change her to fit his needs (never mind about Kathryn's needs, only Ian's are important). The second book was mostly about her training, in which Ian acts like even more of a tool, shows Kathryn less and less respect, and Kathryn becomes more and more of a doormat. Every time she'd stand up for herself, it was right back to doormat. So frustrating. I started skimming a lot, especially the sex scenes.

Kathryn finally pulls her head out of her butt and takes a break from Ian after realizing he's a selfish jerk who says he loves her but clearly doesn't respect her. She's still a domme, and she wants to turn the tables on Ian. Of course he says no (because he's a selfish jerk), but finally agrees only because he needs Kathryn's money. So it finally happens when the third book is almost over, and it's so...lame. Really lame. Again with the sexist crap. He gets to be a real dom, but she just gets to play at it a little with him. The last scene at the club made me hate Ian even more, and Kathryn too because she's back to doormat.

WOW! Really great series and ending

This is a good story about two people (Kathryn, who is a Domme, and Ian, a Dom) who are obstinate and used to getting what they want. They have known each other since they were teenagers (after the awkward and embarrassing incident that each of them never forgot), and it has been 12 years since they have seen each other face-to-face. Because of their family businesses, they are asked by their fathers to help with the proposal for the purchase of the Grand Hotel. During their working relationship, they find that their attraction to each other is intense and it escalates, but they know that there is no chance for it to work because she is a Domme and he is a Dom. After a drunken night a bet is made. Who will win the bet between the two? Because of their BDSM lifestyle, can Kathryn and Ian ignore the fact that she is a Domme and he is a Dom to pursue a relationship or to satisfy their sexual attraction?

Fight You
The second book of Dom vs. Domme series continues with the story of Kathryn and Ian, which delves deeper into their relationship. Kathryn finds that her feelings for Ian have changed and it seems as if the deeper she gets involved with Ian, she has to compromise her identity, push her boundaries, take risks, and worry about her insecurities. When their families meet at Ian father’s house, their families find out about their relationship, which they were trying to hide, after a surprise visitor is invited. To further complicate their relationship, Ian divulges that he ‘thinks he loves her’ after their love making and in return Kathryn tells him that she loves him. After the surprise visitor that was invited at Ian father’s house appears at Ian’s house the next day, will she try to blackmail both Ian and Kathryn about their lifestyles? Or after taking a picture of Kathryn, will she blackmail just Kathryn to get what she wants? This makes you wonder if they will be able to sustain their relationship—I hope so.

Save Us
Really great series! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The third and final book of Dom vs. Domme series, Save Us, continues with the story of Kathryn and Ian, who are obstinate and used to getting what they want. This book delves deeper into their relationship and shows how Ian and Kathryn’s relationship has flourished. Finally, Kathryn realizes that she does not want to give up her identity of being a Domme even after she has submitted to Ian. The realization that there are two distinct personalities (Katie that loves Ian and submits to him and Kathryn the Domme who is very confident) makes Kathryn contemplate if Ian would submit to her as well. Because one of the investors did not provide his portion of the money for the hotel, Ian and his father needs additional money ($15 MM) before they can have the grand opening to the hotel, and Ian had to relent and ask Kathryn for the money. Kathryn gives Ian an ultimatum that if he wants the money for the hotel and her as a submissive, he would have to submit to her. Since Ian is an alpha Dom, will he accept Kathryn’s ultimatum to submit to her in order to get the money for the hotel? Talcott Parsons (1902-1979) was one of most influential and controversial theorists of twentieth-century sociology. He served on the faculty of Harvard University for forty-five years. Theory of small-group interacton and verification of the general theory of action

This landmark study of small groups contains reports from a group of action theorists led by Talcott Parsons. Parsons derived the basic framework of the theory of action from these empirical observations of how people behave in small groups when they are presented with a task. All groups divide between instrumental members, on the one hand; and consummatory members on the other hand. The instrumental members are the task leader, who explains the task and conducts meetings and the members of the group who assist in providing resources like suggestions to the leader. The consummatory members are the inevitable clowns and antagonists who derail and disturb the task process and the inevitable passive members who simply go along with the process or sleep. Instrumental-consummatory is one axis of conduct that appears in all small groups. The second axis is internal-external. The instrumental members are oriented to getting the task done; that is, to the purposes that are external to the group itself. The consummatory members are oriented to the group process; that is, internally. Instrumental members attain the goals and gather the resources. Consummatory members communicate the feelings of the members to the task leader. Clowning and antagonism, for instance, help keep the group on task, even if the consummatory types may annoy the instrumental types. Other studies in the book apply these concepts to how people behave in families and other social structures. These two axes produced the whole framework of the next 25 years of the theory of action: adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and pattern maintenance. People who are theoretically aware will find this empirical verification of the theoretical structure rewarding if only to understand the bizarre behavior people in meetings. Robert F. Bales, the second author, went on to develop a major management organization consulting firm with his work. What Parsons and his group began as the very opaque 'Toward a general theory of action' came to life in this amazing work.

I enjoyed this book

I was really excited to have a chance to review this book and enjoyed reading it. The book takes you through dozens of angel experiences that have been documented and includes different ways they have protected and encouraged believers. I have always believed in angels, and have been very interested in the spiritual realm that angels live in. I have not totally understood the need for angels in God's economy but after reading this book, I understand much more.

I devoured the first half of the book in one evening and then I found myself skimming through the book afterwards. The stories and chapters make it easy to quickly scan and pick out the segments that are most interesting to the reader.

I learned a lot from reading this book. I loved learning about how angels can take the form of humans or spirit form. Or sometimes they do not appear, but perform their duties and services on our behalf. I had heard this before but this book confirmed it to me. I learned what they can do, why they are important and more.

I do recommend this book for anyone seeking more knowledge of this vital part of God's kingdom.

A Good, Sound, Biblical Writing About Angels

This book is a good, sound and biblical book about angels. The author not only shares scriptural references to teach the different roles of the angels but also shares testimonies from people who have had personal experiences themselves with angels. Angels are not just something the Lord used back in the Old Testament days. He, God, still uses angels today to help His people. I loved this book I think mostly because I can relate to the testimonies others have had concerning their supernatural experiences with angels for I have had some myself. The first time was during a conference where people from all over the world were in attendance. We were all expecting of the Lord and He did not fail us. The praise and worship was so deep that we just kept singing the same thing again and again and none of us wanted to come out! It was during such a time of praise and worship that I saw angels beginning to file up around the musicians. I was not shown their faces or anything in great detail...only their wings. I saw them in iridescent colors of shiny white, pale lavender and pink.

I recommend this book to anyone but especially to those who they themselves have had personal experiences with angels and want to know more about the roles of the angels.

Reading this book has stirred me up spiritually and I am yearning to have more experiences with God Himself and also with His angels.

A Recommended Read

Have you ever known someone who had an experience with an angel? Judith MacNutt is one of those people. These experiences combined with the encouragement of fellow Christians lead her to write this book. MacNutt collected stories of angelic appearances from others and shares them along with theological and Biblical teachings on angels. I found this book to be spiritually encouraging and though provoking. MacNutt doesn't proport herself to be an expert, but she has done her research and has more experience than the average Christian in seeing glimpses beyond the veil.

One thing that did concern me was the fact that MacNutt referred to some angels in the Bible that I always understood not as appearances of angels, but as Jesus, such as Daniel 7:9-10 and Revelation 4:2-5. However, this shows MacNutt does frequently refer back to the Bible and doesn't base this book on experiences alone. I say this as a warning for the reader to be discerning, yet with that being said, I have no reservations recommending this book.
