What's Good: it's a fast-moving, multi-layered, complex story that I read in one sitting. Plot has a lot of meat to it. Politics, intrigue, (not-so) chance encounters- there's a lot of the stuff I like to read about going on here. The magic system is intriguing as is the setting- which draws from real world events and figures. There's some pretty interesting characters- I liked Sabine and Giancarlo a lot- and aside from the main arc there's some nifty sub-plots in the works as well.

What's Bad: there's so much going on here, you need a scorecard to keep track of it all. It's only the second book, so there's no reason not to provide a summary of the first book or a glossary to bring new readers up to speed. I was completely lost at times for not knowing who's who or what's what so just had to accept it and keep rolling. The constantly shifting perspectives and frequent head-hopping also muddled things a bit.

What's Left: The sexual dynamics will throw you for a loop at first. Even though there's a reason for two sisters marrying the same man and simultaneously sleeping with him, without the context from the first book to frame it you'll be shaking your head for a good chunk of the book. Once you get past that (if you can), there's a lot to like here. I'm definitely interested to read the first one and the next when it comes out.

This book is not erotica. I don’t say that to be disparaging. That is a good thing. Michael Dalton has proven that without erotica as the glue binding the e-pages he is a top notch writer. This story is really well written, with rich characters, interesting plot twists, and a great topic.

I read this to the end quickly--on the edge of my seat--despite incredible eye discomfort thanks to the slow recuperation of a corneal abrasion in my right eye. By the end I was sincerely wishing that Astrid and Ariel (the twin mages) could leap out of the book and use their talents for naturalism to heal my cornea. I was holding one eye shut with one hand and reading with my good eye rather than put the book down because it was too enjoyable. This installment was every bit as interesting as the first book in the series, but this one’s plot was one magic spring drop more complex, which really grabbed my interest.

Dalton is onto something magical here, not just because many of the characters are mages, but because the alternate history, the paranormal, the erotic, and the steampunk all blend together marvelously. Do yourself and have a look for yourself. I’m already looking forward to the next book in this series. Something tells me Matthias is not going to take the events of Book 2 well and this will lead to trouble.

Erich,Astrid and Ariel begin their new life together with a trip to a new city for Erich to find work. Life as a thresome is not easy, with the only way for them to join, is as three. There is no two-time. An overnight stay in a stop over on the way turns into something more sinister, something more deadly, something that could possibly tear them apart, and cause the deadth of yet another baby.

I found this as good as, but not better than book one, The Wizard's Daughters. Its tone is different, hence the filing on the darker/grittier shelf.

Astrid and Ariel find themselves involoved in a centuries old bargain with a witch that is stealing children. When that bargain comes a little close to home for the ruling Philip, he tries to cheat the witch out of her prize, but the witch is not to be stopped and she will have her child. Astrid and Ariel find their colour changes, and their power too, and, while this is not yet fully answered in this book, I really need to know what will happen to them, how this will effect them, because clearly, its very important if thier father is running across the country in the dead of winter. So I'm hoping that comes in book three, and I get a chance to read it too.

Full of magic and mystery, full of lots of characters and their part in this story starting off seperate and coming together. It has some violence, more so than book one, I thought, but again, relatively clean. There are some characters based on real people, and it tells you about that in the back of the book, but I didn't read it. A little more history here, too.

4 stars, same as book one.

Bradford D. Jordan is Professor of Finance and holder of the Richard W. and Janis H. Furst Endowed Chair in Finance at the University of Kentucky. Typical of McGraw-Hill

First off, I paid roughly $230 for a textbook, but I received loose-leaf paper with pages stuck together as though the cutting department wasn't working properly. Upon peeling them apart on the first day of owning the book, three pages were torn. According to the outside packaging, the reason for the loose-leaf edition was because "your instructor has decided to use this version to save you money." Yes. I'm sure it has nothing to do with reducing publisher costs. I almost threw the loose-leaf pages out my window on the way home.

Second, the McGraw-Hill website doesn't work unless your instructor has chosen to use it. Mine didn't. So I'm sitting with a worthless code that does absolutely nothing for me. The only way for me to learn the material is with a tutor--the book is not sufficient if you are the learn-on-your-own type.

Third, the book itself does not have nearly enough worked-through examples. The authors assume that the book makes perfect sense and that the accumulated knowledge will be enough to solve the problems. To put it into perspective, I spent twelve hours reading Chapter Six and working through the examples. By the time I got to the homework problems (the intermediate skill level, which is all my instructor assigns), it was evident that the examples were not nearly enough. I have no idea when to use which particular formula...any monkey can plug numbers into a formula, but the numbers make no sense if the definitions make no sense.

My advice: if you must take this course, do not rely on the book to be enough information to solve the homework problems. Do not rely on the McGraw-Hill website, which typically charges an additional fee to use their services. I despise McGraw-Hill for this...as if $230 for loose-leaf paper and $3,000 tuition isn't enough to learn the material.

This is the third McGraw-Hill book I've had to use throughout my schooling. Every time, it's been the same thing. Critical information is left out of the text so the student either has to purchase access to Connect or has to purchase a tutor. Every time, I leave the course as confused as when I first stepped in. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE ONLINE! Make sure you have someone there who can answer your questions and explain what is going on...otherwise, you will do as my entire class is doing--averaging about 60% and not learning anything.

Wow! Great! Excellent! Amazing etc.., the list can continue.This is one book that any starter in finance area will want to learn from. Its a power-packed source of information for any student who is just starting to learn finance, however if you are already a pro in finance, then don't even considering this book because you'll finish reading the entire book in a couple of weeks.

I used this book for my exams preparation along with brealey myers text and the combination simply pushed my rank into the outstanding bracket.

This book is particularly useful for the following chapters:

5. Introductio to valuation: time value of money

6. Discounted cash flow - Interesting chapter opening

7. Interest Rates and Bond Valuation - Great Derivations

8. Stock Valuation - Once again great derivation on formula's

9-11: Capital budgeting - will be useful to only absolute starters. I liked the material in Brealey Myers text, it is more advanced

12. Some lessons from corporate market history

13. Return,Risk and Security Market Line

15. Cost of Capital

19-21: Short Term Finance - Best coverage, though not complete in all respects.

Finally one honest note, I didn't know how to produce PV/FV/Annuity tables by myself before I bought this book. Now I able to produce them all by myself.

I you want to dig deeper in finance, just like I am doing, then I suggest you buy this book and principles of corporate finance by brealey myers.This book will provide you with the base that is needed to cover the other book that I mentioned.

So the book itself is great. The book does NOT come with the connect although it is mentioned in the description. I had to return it and purchase from the college bookstore for the access code for connect plus.

Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services and Counseling at California State University at Fullerton. He received his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; and a National Certified Counselor. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17, Counseling Psychology; and Division 49, Group Psychotherapy); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Both Jerry and Marianne Corey received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and both also received the Eminent Career Award from ASGW in 2001. Dr. Corey was given the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from California State University at Fullerton in 1991. He regularly teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling and ethics in counseling. In the past 40 years Jerry and Marianne Corey have conducted group counseling training workshops for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland.

A Keeper

I've read a couple of Group counseling textbooks and this is my favorite. I was upset with the price but Corey's writing is excellent, his in depth explanation of the different modalities was perfect and I especially appreciated the examples included. This will stay on my reference bookshelf for future use.

great group work book

Bought this for a course in my MSW program. I enjoyed the class and we really used the book from front to back. This book has a lot of usuful information if you are looking to start running groups or working with clients in your practicum. I plan on keeping this text and not selling it back because of all the information that you can gain from this book. Im glad that I took the course because of this book!.

My book arrived with the cover ripped clean off of the book. I'm astounded that I was charged over $40 for a book that's in such abysmal shape. I seriously hope the seller see this and does something to make it correct.
